A confident English speaker is not just someone with better professional prospects. The last couple of years have highlighted the need for international cooperation to solve the ever new and deeper world problems. Tomorrow’s graduates will be part of a world where international communication, cooperation and understanding, will be even more important than it already is for the solving of problems that we now realise no state is equipped to confront by itself. |

I have eleven years of teaching experience in Taiwan. I’ve gained vast international teaching and mentoring experience from participating in language programs in Spain, Germany and Poland. Additionally, I was an assistant director at YMCA’s English winter and summer camps. |

Creating a safe, fun and inviting learning environment for the students is always my first priority. Once this is established, I implement my own special brand of academic delivery that utilizes humor, body language, repetition, games and storytelling. I believe in fairness and equality. Every student in my class will always be given every opportunity to participate in classroom activities and games. My teaching experience here in Taiwan has taught me how to effectively adjust and improvise in the classroom. This has proven to be an invaluable teaching asset because classes are never exactly the same. |

Building a healthy relationship with students and parents is always beneficial. This is especially true in Taiwan because of the long-standing stigma that making mistakes opens oneself to criticism and scorn. Consequently, students become shy and reluctant to speak. My goal is to tear down these walls of fear and hesitation using my specialties (mentioned above) and get the students to open up and freely participate. |

I started my career working as a financial advisor for a firm in Midrand, South Africa. After that I worked as a computer science teacher at a high school in South Africa for a year. The following year I moved to Taiwan and worked as a teacher at a Joy cram school for 15 years before starting my current teaching position at Tunghai Elementary School. |

As I was a cram school teacher for 15 years, I gained in-depth knowledge in teaching English as a foreign language and also in preparing students for English tests. I have experience in preparing students for the GEPT, TOEFL, and TOEIC tests. Apart from English teaching, I am also able to teach sports and computer science. |

My teaching philosophy is to make students excited about learning. In my experience, excited students are the most receptive to learning since they simply forget that they are learning. This may seem to be an overly simple philosophy, yet it has proven effective for all my years of teaching. |
